“As part of my Stonecoast experience, I had the unique opportunity of serving an internship at New Rivers Press, a small press associated with Minnesota State University Moorhead. My time there was so rich and fulfilling, learning the internal workings that go into the publication of a book, that I later opted to write a short memoir of the experience. As a way to say “thank you” to all the dedicated staff who took me in as one of their own for several months, I sent the Press a copy of my manuscript.
To my astonishment, they contacted me shortly thereafter to ask if my work could be included in an Anthology of essays being published in honor of their 50th Anniversary Celebration. Titled Paper Camera: A Half Century with New Rivers Press, the book came to fruition in January of 2015. My first major publishing opportunity, it was an emotional moment. It sits in a place of honor on a shelf in my family room today!”
